Lots of Reasons to Smile

A move across the country. A baby on the way. A toddler to chase after. New friends to make. Those are the current events in my life. Is it any wonder I’ve had zero chance to stamp for over a month? Thankfully, my life is settling back into a routine, and one of the nice things about starting over with a clean slate is that I get to add commitments into my schedule based on my current priorities and energy levels (which means I won’t be adding a whole lot since I’m less than 8 weeks out from D-Day, hopefully).

I absolutely loved the relationships I built through my “communities” in Texas– a book club that became like a sisterhood, the chance to teach impoverished women about managing finances at the wonderful Christian Women’s Job Corps, my military spouse friends, my “new mommy” friends, our L.I.F.E. group family at First Baptist, and so many others. I wouldn’t trade those interactions for the world, largely because God was able to use those people to help my faith grow, particularly in the area of trusting His plan and timing– which is a tremendous blessing while waiting for our house to sell thousands of miles away from where we are! Nevertheless, it is much harder to remove things from your calendar than it is to add them in the first place, so this move provided a welcome calm to my sometimes chaotic schedule. You may have seen the visual aid where there are 2 jars. One is filled with sand first, and then has little to no room to add in any rocks. The other is filled with rocks first, then sand is poured over. Not surprisingly, the sand fills the crevices in jar #2 and there is room for both the larger-sized rocks and a fair amount of sand. If rocks are the important things in our lives and sand is the “filler,” or lower priority happenings, my goal starting over is to fill the jar of my life with rocks before I start adding the sand. By God’s grace and guiding hand I believe this can be done in my life!

Although my schedule will likely be turned on its head once the baby arrives (temporarily, at least), I am committed to being flexible yet consistent with the way I run my Stampin’ Up! business. This business has worked for me through a tremendous amount of life transitions already, and I’m confident it will keep working for me if I can remain committed to consistency. My personal theme for this stamping year is just that: be consistent. I hope you will see that reflected in this blog as I strive to keep you inspired!

Now onto that project I finally got around to making…

One of the events I’ve done the past two summers at the release of the new catalog is a ribbon share. Basically each participant gets a share, or portion, of a particular type of ribbon from each color offered. It’s a great way to have any color of ribbon you need to coordinate with a project without spending a fortune. Let me just say I LOVE my ribbon share ladies! This year especially they were extra awesome in light of some delays due to moving from TX to NC. The ribbon I used on this card is from that share, and is one of the newest ribbons in the Stampin’ Up! collection. It is the Stitched Satin ribbon in one of our just-released 2012-2014 In Colors called Primrose Petals. Such a spectacular color. If you’re interested in joining my share next year, send me an e-mail and I’ll add you to my contact list for next year’s share information. If several new people are interested soon, I might just do an early share for this year’s ribbon so don’t delay in contacting me!

Notice the pretty shimmer in the bottom left corner of the detail picture? That is the Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz, and it’s a fabulous way to add some subtle sparkle to any project. Now some info about that cute stamp set. Did you know that it is a promotional set and costs only $5 with a $50 order?!? What a steal!! It’s called A Reason To Smile, and it surely does give me a reason to put on a happy face. The promotion only lasts through the end of July so don’t miss out on this adorable new set! Here is a flyer with some additional info and a sample sheet of project ideas:

Tips: Use Crumb Cake ink to sponge around the edges of the background layer to add interest and give a vintage vibe. Also, tearing card stock for the sentiment allows you to customize the size you need without feeling too perfect, which helps keep a consistent “feel” throughout the project.
