Chalkboards & Lemonade Stands

Recently my sweet little niece turned a year old. It’s impossibly hard to believe it’s already been a year since I traveled to help my twin sister with her beautiful newborn baby girl (after the birth her husband had to return to the last 3 months of his deployment), but it really has been that long! Granted, a lot has happened for me in the last year including a move across the country and the birth of my second son, but that stuff doesn’t speed up time, does it?!? Sure feels like it sometimes.

Nevertheless, the birthday has indeed come despite my disbelief, and my sister picked the most adorable theme for her daughter’s party: a lemonade stand. I’m sure it was inspired by something she saw on Pinterest, but I think she’s brilliant. It was so unique! Also inspiring is how she was able to talk her husband into building an actual play-sized lemonade stand for the party (and beyond), but that’s another story.

As soon as Ashley told me the theme, my creative brain started spinning with ideas. This was quite possibly the easiest card I’ve ever made, simply because I was so excited to put my ideas into action! Do you have that happen sometimes, where you’re just bursting with creativity? It’s rare for me (believe it or not), but this card was the result.

I’ve mentioned before that I love all things “chalkboard,” and the lemonade stand theme definitely lends itself to a chalkboard look. The top scallops are reminiscent of an awning, the pale yellow stripes have an effervescent sparkle, and what would a girly card be without some bedazzling? Our rhinestones are exceptionally sparkly, I’m guessing it’s because they’re made of glass instead of plastic but don’t quote me on that. They’re definitely a gorgeous touch!

You may have worked with our silver glimmer paper before, and if you haven’t you definitely should because it’s ah-mazing, but what if you want sparkly paper in a specific color? You heat emboss a layer of sparkly goodness, of course! #BAM. You can watch my video on DIY heat embossed shimmer paper, and then be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss any future tips and tricks! I used my DIY shimmer paper for the background stripes, as well as those cute little flower accents scattered around the sentiment. Just too sweet!
