CHALLENGE: 2-for-1! Holiday Home and Good Greetings PPA 216 cards

Are you looking for card making inspiration? Check out Pals Paper Arts, a fun way to get inspired, show off your creations, and possibly win some recognition as a Pals Paper Arts pick! This week is a sketch challenge, PPA 216. New PPA challenges are released the 1st-4th Thursday of every month, and if you’re wanting to upload a card for the contest, entries are due by the following Tuesday. Sometimes I’ll browse the archives for some inspiration when I’m feeling a little brain-drained (like that ever happens to a mom– ha!).

PPA 216 Pals Paper Arts sketch challengeI’ve been busy designing for an upcoming class I’m teaching that focuses on the Holiday Home stamp set. The set will be released in the upcoming Holiday Catalog, which you can view on August 28th. The wait is almost over! Woo hoo! I used this sketch as inspiration for one of the card projects for my class, what do you think?

PPA 216 Stampin' Up! Holiday Home card by Becky Gifford The Social Stamper www.thesocialstamper.com

I’m excited to start teaching classes again, if you’re local to my area please contact me to attend one of my events! I have a lot of fun things planned. You can view and print my class schedule for more details. Here’s a close-up of the Holiday Home card:

PPA 216 Stampin' Up! Holiday Home card by Becky Gifford The Social Stamper www.thesocialstamper.com

Do you like the sparkly roof line? Here’s a TIP! I stamped the top part of my tall house-shaped image onto the BACK of my glimmer paper– the side that’s not glittery. It’s a good idea to stamp using a permanent ink like StazOn™ so it doesn’t smear, but that’s not a requirement. Then, simply use your paper snips to cut out the roof line and adhere to your project with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Simple and you’ll get a perfect fit! You can try this out with any stamp image shape, I would love to see what you come up with!

You get some extra inspiration today, yippee! I made a second card using the PPA 216 sketch challenge, and it’s completely different from the first card. Fun, right? One of the ladies on Team Social Stampers just dropped her daughter off at college, and is having an understandably emotional time even though she’s so proud. Isn’t it funny how times of celebration can also feel like times of heartache? I made a card using her daughter’s school colors to let her know I’m thinking of her and I’m by her side during this season.

I took a little artistic liberty with the background. I planned for the ombré effect to stop around the half-way mark, but I got a little too in-the-groove as I painted the ink (I used an aqua painter filled with water and a couple drops of a Garden Green ink refill, and worked the color down the watercolor paper until I was happy with the shading). Creating takes you to another place sometimes, which is nice in my opinion. It’s like a mini-vacation!

There’s that glimmer paper again! I really love it, you just can’t beat how sparkly it is. Also, do you love the font in the sentiment? That’s a sneak peek at the Good Greetings stamp set. What if I told you that the entire Good Greetings set, with a whopping 19 (!!!) adorable sentiment stamps, is totally free?? Yep, there’s an upcoming promotion where you can get the Good Greetings set for free by being the host of a $300 party, in addition to all the normal host benefits. Stay tuned, because I will be posting soon about how you can easily host a $300 party with me no matter where you are located in the United States. Start making a list of friends who you’d love to stamp with, whether near or far!

Pssst… Did you know that people who join my team get lots of things before they’re released to the masses? See new catalogs and pre-order Stampin’ Up! products a month early (like the Holiday Home set!), get news about upcoming promotions to help you plan your spending the most efficiently, and always be a step ahead with Pals Paper Arts challenges– members of my team get to see the challenge schedule for the whole year! Right now is the perfect time to buy the starter kit, because through August 28th you can pick out $150 in products for only $99 with free shipping. Want to learn more? Click the links to visit my Becoming a Demonstrator FAQs page, and an informative Opportunity page.

I feel like this was an information-packed post, so here’s a summary:

  • Play along with Pals Paper Arts challenges, they’re fun!
  • The Holiday Home stamp set will be available with the release of the Holiday Catalog on August 28th
  • Contact me to take a class if you’re local!
  • Good Greetings, a 19-piece stamp set, will be FREE by hosting a $300 party. The promotion starts on August 28th. Stay tuned for a fun alternative to a “been there, done that” party!
  • Silver Glimmer Paper is awesome, and your children or pets can’t take a sparkly bath in it like regular glitter. That might have happened to me once. Fool me once…
  • Join Team Social Stampers for $99, and knock $150 off of your wish list until August 28th
  • August 28th is a big day for Stampin’ Up. Maybe you should put just a teeny little star on your calendar. Or a big star. Your choice.

See you next week for a fresh Pals Paper Arts challenge!

KITS: Paper Pumpkin In The Bag Kit

Recently, the popularity of subscription boxes have skyrocketed. I’ve observed two things about these boxes, many of which can be found on sites like mysubscriptionaddiction.com. They tend to be completely consumable, and/or primarily sample-sized. Think about it! Snacks, beauty finds, nail products, personal hygiene… the list goes on and on! Since I’ve subscribed to other boxes in the past, I can tell you they’re fun. But, after realizing you have a stash of sample-sizes or the cost is really expensive vs. what you’re getting, it’s a little deflating, you know?

When compared to other subscriptions, my paper-craft-loving friends can rest easy knowing My Paper Pumpkin by Stampin’ Up! has the same appeal as other subscription boxes– a surprise package in the mail! Products I love! A reasonable price!– PLUS every month you get non-consumable stamping products like an ink spot (a mini ink pad) and of course, stamps! That means Paper Pumpkin is a great way to build supplies over time, or add exclusive stamps to your collection. Faaaabulous!

Here’s another perk that sets Paper Pumpkin apart– kit refills and the option to purchase past kits!! On mypaperpumpkin.com/en/pastkits you will find a list of available past kits and kit refills, which are only available to current Paper Pumpkin subscribers. Let me introduce you to one of the kits (from February 2014) called In the Bag (item # 135505).

Photo: Paper Pumpkin In the Bag Kit Contents

Look at all that product! You will have plenty left over to play with after assembling your bags. In addition to making a couple of the intended “hello” bags, here are some extra things I made with my kit:

Photo: In the Bag kit project, "for you" bag

“For You” Bag. TIP! I poked holes in the sides of the bag with a paper piercing tool, threaded the baker’s twine through the holes, and attached ends of twine on the inside of the bag with packing tape. If you loop the twine before taping it will hold better!

Photo: In the Bag kit project, "congrats" bag

“Congrats” bag. A simple twist, just adhere the turquoise circles, stamp on some of the star burst circles and adhere, then pop up your letters with dimensionals! In case you want to skip the experimenting, you can fit 8 letters across. You’re welcome. ;o)

Photo: Card project using In the Bag kit contents

Initial card. With a Crumb Cake card base, a small strip of Whisper White card stock for the flag, and a 4″x 5-1/4″ layer of Pistachio Pudding card stock (which was given fabulous texture by running through the Big Shot with the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder), this card comes together in a snap. Quick, easy, and cute! Can’t beat that.

Photo: Gift card holder

Photo: Gift card holder details

Gift card wrapping. Looking for a fun way to add a personal touch to a gift card? This gift card wrapping takes the cake! Using the same products I listed for the “initial card” above, I created a memorable envelope with belly-band style closure. Would you like the project recipe for my go-to gift card wrapping? You can download a free instructional PDF I created for one of my classes. The embellishments on the instruction sheet are different than this project, but the dimensions and process are the same! I used the Project Life Corner Punch (item #135346), which I prefer to the retired 3/16″ Round Corner Punch. Enjoy that little blog-a-licious gift from me.

Photo: M-E-R-R-Y Rosettes

M-E-R-R-Y rosettes. Since the new Holiday Catalog will be released next week on August 28th (woohoo!!!) and demonstrators have already been able to pre-order holiday products during the month of August, I’ve been in a festive mood. You will be too when you see all the great stuff in the new catalog! What better way to use up those extra letters from the In the Bag kit than to make some rosettes that can be added to a wreath, banner, doorknob hanger, or framed piece? I can’t really think of any better way unless you’ve used up all your letters making the cute initial cards or gift card wrappers ;o) Words I can picture being made into rosettes: B-O-O, S-P-O-O-K-Y, B-R-I-G-H-T, C-H-I-L-L-Y, P-E-A-C-E… I am getting excited about making more now! Stay tuned for a complete project using my M-E-R-R-Y rosettes– subscribe to my blog to receive a weekly email digest so you don’t miss any of my project posts.

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know in the comments which project is your favorite. Remember you can order the In the Bag kit by becoming one of my Paper Pumpkin subscribers.

Challenge: PPA 215 Perfect Pennants

Are you looking for card making inspiration? Check out Pals Paper Arts, a fun way to get inspired, show off your creations, and possibly win a prize! This week is a color challenge, PPA 215. New PPA challenges are released the 1st-4th Thursday of every month, and if you’re wanting to upload a card for the contest, entries are due by the following Tuesday. Come play along! You might have seen my entry for last week’s color challenge, PPA 214. Great news! I was a Pals Paper Arts Pick. It’s so fun to get recognition, thank you to the PPA Design Team 1 for picking my card. Now, onto this week’s challenge!

PPA 215 Color Challenge graphic

I was excited to use these colors, they are so bright and fun. Whenever I use Basic Black card stock I think about the chalkboard technique, so I decided to incorporate that into my card. It’s a very easy technique, simply stamp on Basic Black card stock with Whisper White ink or emboss with white embossing powder, then use a Stamping Sponge to sponge ink around the edges of the card stock plus a little brushed lightly around the sentiment. Additionally on this card, I “stamped off” by inking my dotted border stamp with Whisper White, then stamping first on a piece of scrap paper before stamping on my actual project. Anytime you stamp off, it helps the image sink into the background which allows the sentiment to stand out more prominently. It may be my most-used stamping technique!

Here’s my PPA 215 card, using the Perfect Pennants stamp set by Stampin’ Up!:

Photo: PPA 215 card

The star I stamped and cut out with my Paper Snips looks a bit interesting, right? That uses a technique I call “Well-Worn Stamping Off” (see, I really am obsessed with stamping off!). You can see how I do this technique in this YouTube video. My post yesterday for the August Pals Blog Hop was all about my other obsession: the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. I seriously can’t get enough of this amazing punch! I could put a cute tag on everything I own in about 2.5 seconds with how quick and easy it is– okay so maybe that’s a stretch. But seriously it’s ridiculously easy!

BLOG HOP: Pals Too Cool For School August Hop

Pals August Blog Hop

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for August. This month we are showing off our favorite crafting tools – those Stampin’ Up! tools that we just can’t live without. We hope you enjoy our projects!

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from stop #24, Sherrie Gross at Stampin’ Sunshine on the Pals Hop. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all of the amazing creations.

My “gotta have it” tool right now is the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. This versatile punch is a tremendous value, because it can be used in so many different ways. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not just for making tags! Here are five projects I’ve made recently using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch.

Scalloped Tag Topper Punch detail 1 Scalloped Tag Topper Punch details 2

If you’d like a little more detail about each project, I’ve made a short video highlighting each one.

Did you notice the cute little Scalloped Tag Topper Punch treat carton? You will be amazed at how easy it is to make the carton using your Stampin’ Trimmer, the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch, and a little adhesive. The hardest part will be giving it away because it’s just so stinkin’ cute! Since it’s back to school season, wouldn’t it be a special gift to send your child to school with a small gift or treat for their new teacher? My oldest will be heading to a new preschool this year (why do they grow up so fast??) and I will be doing just that. It’s never too early to show gratitude to those who are part of our “village,” helping to nurture our sweet little ones. Who can you see yourself giving a Scalloped Tag Topper Punch treat carton to? Let me know in the comments, I bet you all have some great ideas! Below you can view my Scalloped Tag Topper Punch Treat Carton tutorial so you can learn to make your own. Be sure to subscribe to my blog and YouTube channel so you don’t miss any new ideas for the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch!

The next stop is #26 (Kalyn Shubnell at The Stamping Chronicles) on the Pals Blog Hop! Thanks for visiting and I hope to see you next month.
