KITS: September 2014 Paper Pumpkin

BOO! Ahem, I mean, hello! After a few cooler days I’m reminded that the holiday season is rapidly approaching. For me, there is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than to create something festive.

Now for the disclaimer: I am the LEAST likely to be ahead of the curve when it comes to holidays. I always feel like I’m scrambling to keep up rather than sitting back to enjoy my labors during the holidays, and I always admire people that seem to be perfectly prepared. Those who breeze through seasonal decorating– even having time to host a themed party for each new occasion– make me swoon with wishful thinking.

So what’s a scrambling girl to do?? Subscribe to Paper Pumpkin, of course! The creative geniuses at Stampin’ Up! prepare months in advance to release precisely timed, perfectly themed crafty boxes to help all of us who struggle with being behind the curve to be astonishingly ahead of the game. Or, if you’re one of the perfectly-prepared, festive-even-in-your-sleep types, you’ll love to have a coordinated holiday project that will keep you in the celebratory mood while giving you a much-deserved break from executing your outrageously awesome plans. Want to see what you can do with a Paper Pumpkin box?

Before I show you an extra project I created using the September 2014 Paper Pumpkin kit, here’s a video highlighting the adorable treat bags that are meant to be made with the kit!

Fun, right? Now, here is a quick and simple card I made using a few extra supplies plus the “Boo” stamp and spooky raven sticker from the kit. This coming Sunday I will be a guest stamper on Mary Fish’s blog at, and I will have another September 2014 Paper Pumpkin card that has a fun surprise inside. You won’t want to miss it so be sure to subscribe to my blog if you haven’t already! Here’s your dose of inspiration for the day.

Layering punches is a simple and quick way to add an embellishment to any project, whether a card, memory page, or 3-D item. For this card, I punched out and layered a 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle of Tangerine Tango card stock, a 1-3/8″ circle of Very Vanilla, and the branch of the Bird Builder Punch in Basic Gray, and perched a shadowy raven sticker that was included with the kit. The awesome thing about this kit is that the same images that came as stickers also came as stamps, so I will never run out! Another “technique” worth mentioning is repeated stamping of an image in a tone-on-tone color scheme to make a background. It really takes the card from cute to wow!

Not a current Paper Pumpkin subscriber and bummed that you missed the September Paper Pumpkin kit? Right now the full kit with stamp set is not available for purchase (purchasing past kits and refills are benefits of being a Paper Pumpkin subscriber), so this is a good reminder to sign up so you don’t miss out on any future kits. I am certain there will be more adorable holiday projects headed your way in future boxes!
